💰 Price Table
✅ Pros
- Kyushu Shinkansen fully covered (Hakata–Kagoshima-Chuo) — ¥10,000 one-way, one round trip pays for the pass
- Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen (Takeo Onsen–Nagasaki) also included — easy access to Nagasaki
- Three variants for flexibility: All Kyushu / Northern / Southern — pick the one matching your route
- Online purchase saves ¥1,000 vs. buying at stations — book ahead for best price
- Famous JR Kyushu design trains all covered: Yufuin no Mori, A-Train, SL Hitoyoshi — a rail fan's paradise
- All Kyushu version has UNLIMITED seat reservations — book any train you want
- All limited express trains included (Sonic, Kamome, etc.) — no extra surcharge needed
- Children half price (ages 6-11) — great value for families
❌ Cons
- Sanyo Shinkansen Kokura–Hakata section NOT covered (operated by JR West) — watch out coming from Honshu
- Consecutive days only — no flexi option, plan your itinerary carefully
- Northern/Southern variants limited to 6 seat reservations — budget them wisely
- Northern version does NOT include Kagoshima/Miyazaki — need All Kyushu for the south
- Southern version is 3 days only with limited area — only suits Kumamoto-and-south itineraries
- Design trains (Yufuin no Mori etc.) have very few seats — nearly impossible without advance booking in peak season
- Tourist visa holders only — foreign residents not eligible
- Private railways and subways not included — Fukuoka city subway etc. cost extra
👍 Best For
- Multi-city Kyushu traverse: Hakata → Kumamoto → Kagoshima via Shinkansen all the way south
- Onsen paradise: Beppu → Yufuin → Kurokawa → Ibusuki — Kyushu is Japan's hot spring heartland
- Design train pilgrimage: Yufuin no Mori + A-Train + SL Hitoyoshi — a must for rail fans
- Nagasaki + Fukuoka + Beppu classic route — Northern 3-day at ¥15,000 is excellent value
- Family trips: Kumamoto Castle + Mt. Aso + Beppu Hells
👎 Not For
- Staying in Fukuoka city only — subway day pass is cheaper
- Need Shinkansen from Hakata to Honshu (Sanyo Shinkansen segment not covered)
- Budget travelers visiting only 1-2 cities — individual tickets may be cheaper
- Frequent Hakata–Kokura commuting — that section is JR West, not covered
- Single-city business trips
💡 Pro Tips
⚠️ Common Pitfalls
- Accidentally riding the Sanyo Shinkansen between Kokura and Hakata — this segment is operated by JR West and NOT covered, you will be asked to pay the fare
- Not buying online in advance — you end up paying an extra ¥1,000 for no reason
- Not booking Yufuin no Mori in advance — showing up on the day means no seats, especially on weekends and holidays
- Using up all 6 reserved seat allocations on the Northern/Southern variant — you are stuck with unreserved seats for the rest of the trip
- Assuming the Northern Kyushu version includes Kagoshima — it does NOT, you need the All Kyushu version
- Not knowing that limited trains like SL Hitoyoshi require a separate reservation — the regular booking system may not have availability
- Overlooking that the Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen requires a transfer at Takeo Onsen — there is no direct Shinkansen from Hakata to Nagasaki
- Peak season (cherry blossom / Golden Week) design train seats sell out fast — book at least 1 month in advance
